Dr Panayi studied Medicine at the Medical School of the University of Athens in Greece from where he graduated in 2005. Right after, he moved to Sweden where he worked for 11 years at the University Hospital of Linköping. He acquired the specialties of Internal Medicine and Cardiology and he was trained in Interventional Cardiology. He gained extensive experience in interventional treatment of coronary artery disease working in a high-volume catheterization lab.

Dr Panayi had the responsibility of the local program for angioplasty of chronic total occlusions (CTO-PCI) using both antegrade and retrograde techniques and he is highly skilled in treating extremely calcified lesions with rotational atherectomy (Rotablation). In clinical practice, he predominantly use the radial access for his procedures and he has deep knowledge of endovascular imaging methods such as optical coherent tomography (OCT) and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) as well as of methods of functional study of the coronary vessels such as FFR and iFR.

Dr Panayi acquired proficiency in transthoracic echocardiography and executed a considerable number of transesophageal echocardiograms. Recently, he participated as an assistant in a large series of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI) procedures at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen where he gained experience of the method.
