Rural doctor SHO. Romanos-Derviziana rural surgery was my permanent base while seven villages were under my medical services. I worked alone but always in cooperation with Derviziana Health Center, in which the surgery belongs. In these 11 months almost 4000 patients have asked for medical support. Most of them needed prescription for chronic diseases but there were also casualties. In most cases I had to deal with respiratory diseases, heart problems, neurological problems, strokes, incapable of moving and old- at home patients, depression symptoms, abdominal pain, acute and chronic trauma, car accidents, animal bites, inflammatory diseases, minor surgical procedures, allergic reactions and childhood diseases. I also prescribed blood and urine examinations, X-Rays, CT scans, etc, gave medical advice and followed up the patients, performed ECGs, visited people-especially incapable of moving or old- at home in regular basis and replaced urine or rhino-gastric catheters when necessary and I was always on call 24/7 for emergencies. Of course I offered treatment for all these cases or referred patients to a specialist or a hospital. I have accompanied patients in the ambulance to the nearest hospital and 7-10 times a month was on 24-hour duty at Derviziana’s health center.
This post is recognized by the Greek Ministry of Health as a Specialty Training Post leading to a CCST equivalent.
